#7 Supporting A Good Cause

We are a small school in a rural community; but our students have big hearts and helping hands.  So many times, we have an opportunity to help others, and every time, our students & staff step up to the plate.  Here are just a few of the great things that we have done and continue to do on an annual basis:

CHS Blood Drive

  • Canned food drive
  • Dime Wars (buys Christmas presents for area families in need)
  • Service Learning Day
  • Donating for Cancer Research
  • Blood Drive
There are so many more great things that we do for others at CHS.  These are great lessons we are teaching our students about character -- what it means to help others.

All the ways our school lends a helping hand to others makes us...

AWESOME!

#6 The Spirit March

This new tradition rocks... literally!  Nothing is louder, more exciting, or as thrilling at CHS than this Spirit March.  Here's what happens: each Friday after the bell rings to start the day, our Marching Band quietly walks to the 3rd floor.  When the director blows his whistle to begin the fight song, cheers and excitement can be heard in classrooms as the students pour into the halls to cheer the band on as they wind through the hallways, playing the fight song.

This new tradition, started as a one-time event to help get everyone excited about the 1st game of the year, has grown so popular that students and teachers are begging for it each week!

On Celina, On Celina,
Play your best today.
Hit 'em high and hit 'em low,
Make that scoreboard sway,
Rah, Rah, Rah.

On Celina, On Celina,
Fight on for your fame.
Fight, fellas fight and
We will Win the Game.

The new 'Spirit March' tradition...

#5 Parents

No one has a tougher job than a parent!  Need I say more?  One of the things that makes our school as great as it is is parental involvement.  From encouraging students to do their homework to helping them fill out college applications, parents are the key to success in school.  So on this night of 'Parent-Teacher' conferences, it is appropriate to recognize those parents that get involved.  Thanks to all of you for what you do and please know that we recognize and commend you for your hard work!

Because we couldn't be great without them, CHS Parents are...

AWESOME!

#4 Homecoming

This fall tradition is something that students look forward to – from the homecoming assembly to the parade of convertibles on the football field, the announcement of the winner, and most importantly, the dance on Saturday night.

#3 Pep Rallies

Every student loves getting out of class – doing something different than sitting behind a desk.  That’s where a PEP RALLY comes in… standing up and cheering for your classmates, your school, YOUR BULLDOGS!  The CHS Pep Rally has evolved a great deal in the last 4 years… from something that the students didn’t understand (no one really stood at the 1st one we had four years ago!) to something that students are begging to do!  Thanks to our newly formed Spirit Squad (see a future post!), CHS Pep Assemblies really are…

AWESOME!

#2 EXCELLENT

We ROCK the books!  Plain and simple!

CHS has been rated EXCELLENT by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) since they started ranking individual schools in 2002.  This rating, the highest a high school can receive, indicates quality performance on state standardized tests by our students and excellent instruction by our staff.  Nothing wrong with patting ourselves on the back a little!  Often times we recognize great achievements by athletic teams… this is like winning a State Championship for our academics!

This year (2010), we are even more excited as the entire Celina City School District has been rated Excellent with Distinction by ODE.  This is the highest rating a district can receive.  This school year, we are the only district in Mercer County to be recognized with this honor.

Quite simply, CHS academics…

AWESOME!

#1 We Got Spirit Yes We Do, We Got Spirit How ‘Bout You!

I know all schools have school spirit.  However, right now, I would put our school up against any other high school in a contest for most school spirit!  Just walk our halls on any given Friday and wade through the sea of ‘Bulldog Green’.  And its not just Fridays that we show our Bulldog Spirit – go to any of our sporting events to see a large group of CHS faithful cheering on their classmates.  We don’t limit it to sports either.  Friday night as the Marching Band came off the field at halftime, they were welcomed by a chorus of cheers from the student section.

We have plenty to cheer about here so that makes it easy to have school spirit... Keep it up!

CHS Spirit…

AWESOME!
